Debbie Chen (Doing Business As...)

Architect, Designer, Educator

Assistant Professor, Rhode Island School of Design
Licensed Architect: NY, WI, RI

DC(DBA) is a design practice founded by Debbie Chen.

Part architecture and part infrastructure, her work explores systems that transform the pragmatic into the sublime. Her projects leverage mundane considerations of industrial processes and material ecologies to produce euphoric understandings of our built environment.  Her current research explores the intersection of decarbonization, cultural practices, and architectural representation.

A licensed architect in New York, Wisconsin and Rhode Island, Debbie currently serves as Graduate Program Director and Assistant Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design. Prior to joining RISD, she was the 2021-2022 Architectural Activism Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning, where she explored the representation of climate activism through gameplay. Debbie previously served as Project Architect at Morphosis Architects and as Project Lead at LTL Architects. She received a Master of Architecture from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California.
